Explanation of Logos and Badges

The following is a list of logos and badges that I have encountered and what they mean. The prescence (or absence) of any badge or logo on this page should not be taken as a claim (or otherwise) of compliance with a particular standard, or even that the organisation behind the standard is aware of the website.

Logo	Org.	Type	What it means
	HiSoftware	Self-Assessed	This asserts that this page has been approved by Cynthia, an accessibility validator produced by HiSoftware, and that manual checking has been carried out for the checkpoints which cannot be automated. This image should link back to the Cynthia Says site.
	Watchfire	Self-Assessed	This asserts that this page has been approved by Bobby, an accessibility validator produced by Watchfire.com. The image should link back to the Watchfire.com website.
	Watchfire	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page has been approved by Bobby, and the site owner asserts that all priority 1 and 2 checkpoints of the WCAG standard have been satisfied (including manual checking). This should link back to Watchfire.com
	Watchfire	Self-Assessed	This asserts that this page has been approved by Bobby, and the site owner asserts that all priority 1, 2 and 3 checkpoints of the WCAG standard have been satisfied. The image should link back to Watchfire.com.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page has well formed and validated HTML to the 4.01 standard issued by W3C. The image should link back to an online standards checker.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page has well formed and validated XHTML to the 1.0 standard issued by the W3C. The image should link back to an online standards checker.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the CSS used with this HTML page is well formed and validated to the standard issued by W3C. The image should link back to an online standards checker.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page satisfies all priority 1 checkpoints of the WCAG standard issued by W3C. The image should link back to an explanation of WAI-A conformance on the W3C site.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page satisfies all priority 1 and 2 checkpoints of the WCAG standard issued by W3C. The image should link back to an explanation of WAI-AA conformance on the W3C site.
	W3C	Self-Assessed	This asserts that the page satisfies all priority 1,2 and 3 checkpoints of the WCAG standard issued by W3C. The image should link back to an explanation of WAI-AAA conformance on the W3C site.
	Aspiramedia	Externally-Assessed	If your site is submitted to the aspiramedia No Jargon website and is deemed to be free of jargon, they may grant permission to use this badge.
	NLB	Externally-Assessed	The National Library for the Blind's A-Sites portal. Use of this logo does not necessarily signify a particular standard of accessibility, but only sites that meet the appropriate standard of accessibility are accepted onto the portal.
	Net-Progress	Externally-Assessed	A website that is considered byNet-Progress to excel in a specific area (website quality, website visibility or website accessibility) is eligible for the Net-Progress Commendation.
	Net-Progress	Externally-Assessed	A website that is considered by Net-Progress to achieve an excellent rating in website quality, website visibility and pass Priority 1 minimum Accessibility standards is eligible for the Gold Standard Award.
	Net-Progress	Externally-Assessed	A website that is considered by Net-Progress to achieve a good or excellent rating in website quality, website visibility and pass Priority 1 minimum Accessibility standards is eligible for the Silver Standard Award.
	RNIB	Externally-Assessed	RNIB offer a paid-for website audit. You are permitted to use the See it Right logo if your site achieves this standard, and and has been checked against it in the past 12 months. The standard is between WAI-A and WAI-AA, with some WAI-AAA checkpoints.
	Shaw Trust	Externally-Assessed	This asserts that the site has been tested by the Shaw Trust, and found to pass WAI-AA conformance, as well as being found to be accessbile by the testing panel.
	Shaw Trust	Externally-Assessed	This asserts that the site has been tested by the Shaw Trust, and found to pass WAI-AA conformance, and comply with a number of WAI-AAA checkpoints, as well as being found to be accessbile by the testing panel.
	Silktide	Externally-Assessed	SilkTide Sitescore checks search engine profile, links to the site, website popularity, site response times, technologies used, features available, response times, accessibility tests, and user votes to give an overall average. This is my current score.
