Sorry, Antoine

The more astute among you will have noticed that back in September I had a post entitled Antoine Sibierski, referring to the Frenchman we’d just signed on transfer deadline day. You might have guessed that I wasn’t overly impressed with this signing, particularly as the post started with:

I’m sorry, who?My original posting

Obviously, now that he’s scored five times in what I believe is still only seven starts for us and is looking a somewhat effective player, I have spotted the obvious typographical error in the above. It should of course have read:

While Antoine Sibierski may not have been the first choice for many Newcastle fans, he is an intelligent player who is very effective in the air, can hold play up well, and will be a constant threat to opposition defences by popping up in the box to get on the end of crosses.

He may not have been the man would have been asking for, but I’m sure he’ll weigh in with his fair share of goals.

What I had meant to say

Now let’s just beat, or draw with Frankfurt tomorrow night to make sure we top the group. Failing that, getting Fenerbahçe to fail to beat Celta Vigo away in Spain would be sufficient.

Sorry Glenn for doubting you. Sorry Antoine for doubting you. Freddie — you can still piss off.

    it’s always the quiet ones…….
i don’t know exactly how many, but his name was mentioned a few times last season on man city scoresheets.

  2. Dan responds:

I was surprised that city let him away. He’s a very good header of the ball, so will always score goals given a decent run in the team, and that’s not something you can say about many of their players (or yours for that matter).

  3. JackP responds:

Mark — I believe the precise figure you’re looking for is twice!
