Is it just me…

…or is anyone else noticing a significant increase in spam commenting at the moment? They aren’t getting through my spam filters, but they are reducing the chances of me spotting anyone genuine who’s been marked as spam by mistake. After all, there’s only so many messages you can read with “visit my thai nude teen site” or “buy non-piercing nipple ring” before you start to get just a teensy bit fed up with it…

No it’s not just you. A load of us were talking about this the other day. I regularly get 200-300 spams sitting in my Gmail junk and the occasional real one gets in there. I’m absolutely certain I’ve zapped some that I shouldn’t but it’s a little difficult to confess to your client that they may have been overlooked due to the plethora of penile enhancements.

I think Gmail are trying to do something about it though as I’ve noticed over the last week or so that the occasional spam is getting into the inbox which never happened before.

I’ve noticed more spam messages, mostly trackbacks, that seem more “legit” and they involve a little more reading to decide if they’re really spam. I do like the obvious ones better.

  3. Gill responds:

You have a lot to answer for Mr Cherim. I’ve had 3 emails today pushing mortgages, entitled “Secure, accessible, web forms” :-(

  4. Mike Cherim responds:

Lol, I get those too Gill, spammers trying to get me to use their secure form (though I have never seen them promoted as accessible too).

Just this past week I’ve been seeing some funny stuff in my Akismet queue. Stuff like “Get full technical details about [some intimate act with farm animals]…”

I must say as long as it doesn’t end up on my blog some of this stuff is really quite funny.
