The Mike Parr Survivors Club

I posted some time ago saying that I’d been interviewed on Radio Newcastle about my blog and I hadn’t thought the interview had gone particularly well: I’d not had much of a chance to put my points across, I didn’t feel they were asking me the questions that I’d been led to believe they were going to ask and so on.

One of the comments on that blog entry was from a lady called Holly Harvey (not Hunter) who suffers from ME and was about to be interviewed about a novel she’d written where the main character also has ME. She was a little nervous about appearing on the breakfast show after reading my experience.

So I tuned in to listen to her interview as a not-particularly-helpful way for me to offer moral support. I thought Holly had come across well in the interview, explaining a little about ME and about her novel (and the seemingly few places that were stocking it) but obviously hadn’t been given much time to do it in. Holly didn’t think she’d done a particularly good job.

Which is why I’m proposing we start The Mike Parr Survivor’s Club for those people who have been interviewed on Radio Newcastle to band together and say that yes, we too had our thirty-five seconds of fame being bounced from question to question by Mike Parr with little sense of control, or feeling that we’d been able to say what we wanted to, but we’re still here and we survived!

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me and Holly?

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

I’m doing an assignment on mike parr and i was just wondering whether you have any insight into mike parr’s motives? the ideas that feed his works? why he does what he does and what is he trying to convey?
Its ok of you don’t know but I’m pretty desperate.

No obvious ideas, but why not ask him? There’s a Mike Parr profile available online, and if you contact Radio Newcastle and ask nicely, he might offer you some more information.

But of course, there’s always the possibility that you’re after the other Mike Parr, because you’ve not really understood the ‘Radio Newcastle’ significance, and not realised that the Mike Parr we were talking about it a local radio presenter. This would also fit with the questions of “what ideas feed his works” and “what is he trying to convey?” as the other Mike Parr is a performance artist.

Unfortunately, that one isn’t the Mike Parr I was talking about, so I can’t help you there…

Or, if it’s neither of them you’re after, there’s also a Mike Parr Accountacy Services in Grimsby…

I was just there in November. Bummer that I missed this exibhit by only a few months. There are some nice paintings in the Laing Art Gallery though (Lawrence Talma Adema, William Holman Hunt, John Martin and more).
