Computer Weekly vs. Geography
I get Computer Weekly delivered to my desk at work. This is a magazine that is billed as “working for IT professionals” and also currently for being the “campaigning magazine of the year”. According to its own figures, it is read by over 149,000 IT professionals every month, and therefore you’d expect it to be a serious, professional magazine that gives the impression of being well-researched and put together.
And for the most part, it does give this impression. Apart from the Regional Jobs section.
Now it may be that my particular route into IT wasn’t the most natural; I did a degree in Biological Sciences and retrained in computer programming (at the time, in COBOL) once I’d been unemployed for six months, and it all kind of snowballed from there.
So possibly my background, which saw me receive an A Level ‘B’ Grade in Geography (back in the days when it was theoretically possible to fail exams) means that I have more specific training in Geography than many other IT professionals.

It would be bad enough if it was one or two jobs, but when the majority of the jobs advertised in a particular week (and indeed for the last several weeks) would appear to have been mis-filed, it rather begs the question “what’s the point of having a regional jobs section if you don’t know what region various places are in?”
As well as the secondary questions about why Warwick appears to be in several places at once…
