Blog Exploration Meme

It occurred to me today that I regularly read about fifteen blogs. And that regularly I find interesting posts on other blogs that I’m pointed at (normally if someone’s made an interesting comment on my site or on a site I read). But I probably don’t go back to them often enough.

Some — like Escape Crate — become regular reads. Others don’t, and I end up forgetting about them.

So I urge you to go exploring: start on someone else’s site. Read their comments. Find out who they read. And identify at least 3 blogs that you aren’t on your normal prowling patch (but feel free to stay within whatever field or fields interest you — or not as the fancy takes you) that you’d suggest people should try out — and also that you will try to visit regularly for a month.

Sure, there’s a lot of dross on the blogosphere. But if you look around, there’s gold in them thar hills too.

Here’s my selection:

Everyone Else Has A Blog
Short posts. Antiblog. Funny
Tony Pugh
Watches a lot of films. Tells you about them in a non-spoilery way. Theoretically also talks about politics and religion too, but as about 9 out of 10 posts relate to films, it’s mostly about films. I’m presuming has a Very True relative…
Giraffe-a-licious
I can’t quite identify what this blog is about. Like mine, it appears to be one that covers whatever the author happens to be ruminating over at the time. In December we’ve got politics, religion, random dictionary words, the BBC Sports personality of the year (twice), the Ouch! disability blog and chocolate bars. Eclectic…

The only question is whether I should post again in a months time with a more in depth “review” of each blog :-)

Thanks Jack, it’s nice to know at least one person takes notice! I don’t get enough comments to really trawl through and go exploring!

My RSS reader is crammed with about 200 feeds already. Not all of them are regular reads, most are just there because some times they turn up something interesting.

  2. Andy Mabbett responds:

What I really want is an RSS reader which lists posts from all my favourite blogs - and other feeds - in chronological order, regardless of the source.

A bit like reading Twitter, in fact.

  3. Mike Cherim responds:

I’m the same way. I end reading some regularly (yours is a regular read obviously), but I try to follow some link lines to see what’s out there. There must be a zillion blogs so I often stumble upon some good stuff, but I lack the time to explore in depth.

  4. Seb Crump responds:

I already have far too many RSS feeds to read them all (not all ‘blogs’), but I like the anti-blog with its short entries - so may add that.

@Andy - Google Reader will let you do that.
