Newcastle Will Stay Up. Probably.

According to my Premiership Predictions (based partly on the assumption we’re not going to win anything away from home), we were going to be in a bit of a relegation battle. However, my calculations using the BBC’s Premiership Predictor, show that we’ll stay up, but it’ll be a close-run thing, and if we hadn’t won today it might be a different matter…

As I say, I deliberately erred on the side of caution, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Newcastle pick up an extra point or two, but we should now be safe:

Team Played GD Points
Reading 38 -22 37
Newcastle 38 -28 37
Wigan 38 -24 34
Fulham 38 -25 34
Bolton 38 -24 31
Derby 38 -61 12

…and that would be pleasing for Sunderland fans, because it would also see Derby set a new “lowest ever” Premiership points total, beating their 15 point mark of 2005/06.
