Recent Discoveries

Garfield Minus Garfield. Appropriate credit for the spot must be given to Thea, as this is simply genius. A journey into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman, the question is what Jon Arbuckle’s world is like if Garfield didn’t actually exist…

Next we have Ewan McIntosh’s Edublogs. I came across Ewan at the Web Technologies Scotland gig recently, and was impressed with what he had to say, so I thought I’d give his blog a once over. He concentrates on “social participative media, education and the future”. Plus he’s desperate for someone to be the 4000th subscriber to his blog, so why not wander over: you might just make his day…

Then I came across the blog of the conservative politician Glyn Davies, which is quite interesting reading. I actually came across him because he was being slated for making an off-colour comment about the fact Paul McCartney’s lawyer ended up rather damp. Poor wee lamb. He was only cracking a joke. Not a very good one, mind you, but that’s all it was, and yet he was criticised for seemingly being a real person as opposed to being an identikit off-the-shelf politician.

Which I thought was a bit of a shame, as I’ve always thought politics would be better if more “real people” were involved with it, and less politicians.

…and while I might disagree with his politics, he has some interesting things to say, and it’s always worth remembering that people with different opinions to yourself are not the enemy, they are … simply people with different opinions to yourself.

There’s Wordpress 2.5, which is not yet live but I’m hearing good reports of and looking forward to playing with.

There’s a new accessibility resource set up by my old mate Isofarro, called Accessibility Tips. Of course, when I say “old mate”, I mean “someone I’ve frequently had heated arguments with”, but that’s by the by. Looks like it might be a resource worth bookmarking, particularly for people who don’t understand some of the why behind it, as he’s gone to some trouble to explain what the accessibility implications of a number of things actually are. One to watch…

Then there’s Jim, who I’ve known for quite some time now, but as for some reason I’d completely forgotten he was a blogger, this counts as a recent discovery, okay? Anyway, Jim, who really is a rocket scientist (see, it can’t be that hard), has been busy smashing his kitchen door off with a hammer. That’s what rocket scientists do, apparently…

I’m so excited for 2.5! Yes, I am the nerd of all nerds for being this excited, but it has a lot of changes that used to drive me insane, like the visual editor constantly changing code. I did away with visual editor forever ago because of it, but if I can have it without it changing code, that’s awesome. I also like the photo gallery and multiple photo upload thingy. I’m excited to get 2.5 this weekend.
