Pingback Moderation Plugin Wanted

Does anyone know of a WordPress plugin (or can anyone come up with one?) that will take any trackbacks/pingbacks which have been approved by Akismet and stick them in a moderation queue?

The biggest problem with pingbacks is the number of splogs which make some passing reference to a post and get themselves a link added to the comments. Now I know it doesn’t carry ‘link weight’ but it still bugs me that it gets in my public comment list at all (I’m not bothered about all the crap caught by my filters), so I don’t want this to happen. But equally, I’d like to include genuine references to people posting about an article… as it helps continue the debate and can be an interesting way of discovering new sites.

So what I need is a plugin that will take the trackbacks/pingbacks which are approved by Akismet and pass them from there into a moderation queue. Does anyone know of anything which will do the biz?

(I have tried ‘Moderate Pingbacks’ and ‘Moderate Trackbacks’ but they don’t seem to work with Akismet — stuff just got straight through…)

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

I was going to suggest you had a look at those 2 plugins… Maybe they need updating to work with 2.5.1 perhaps?

Anyway I cam across a few sites: Dean Edwards talking about this back in 2005, with a suggested hack. Though I would hope this could be turned into a plugin.

I then found a page on Software Guide which may be of interest.

    Good luck!

I’ve tried the page listed on software guide, but what that seems to prevent is pingbacks/trackbacks from sites which don’t actually link to you from getting through. In the case of these scraper splogs, they do actually link to me, but I don’t think that someone who says:

I saw an interesting post on thepickards today, here is an excerpt

…is really adding much to the debate, so I don’t want them in my comment list.

I’m now trying Dean Edwards thingy, but unfortunately I suspect that is for an older version of wordpress as my wordpress code doesn’t look much like the code shown on his page…
