I knew a fair amount about this before hand and imagined that the book might actually fill me with increased contempt for the text. However, it actually gave me more respect, having been created by people who had a very very different take on religious 'truth' than modern Christians. Her style is a little academic, but worth a read. Jack, if you are interested in such things, I would recommend the book The Bible: The Biography by Karen Armstrong, which is about how the Bible came to be put together.
