Songs Meme

Posted by: JackP on September 7th, 2006

For some reason, the topic of favourite songs cropped up at work today, and three of us attempted to list our favourite twenty songs in the pub later on. Despite differences in ages and musical tastes, each of the three lists matched at least three bands from the other two lists.

If you fancy taking part, the rules are as follows. Pick your top twenty songs, with a maximum of one per band; don’t worry about the order. It would take forever to rank them. Just your top twenty. Don’t worry about the fact you’d pick a different top twenty in a different mood, just give me your top twenty now.

Ideally, in the meme spirit, if you have your own blog, post about it there, rather than here, and just let me know how many (if any) bands you matched with me, and what your comments are on my choices, which are as follows:

What’s happening in WCAG 2?

Posted by: JackP on September 5th, 2006

It’s been a while since Joe Clark brought us The Week In WCAG and I was starting to wonder what was happening. Maybe I should email him to ask?

Then I thought: am I really that lazy? Since I’m the one who wants to know, why don’t I go and look it up for myself. Obviously there were some concerns, like “where do I begin”, but I thought the WAI might be a start. And sure enough it was. Well, what’s happening, then?

Steve Irwin: Bad Taste Warning

Posted by: JackP on September 5th, 2006

Before I do the whole bad taste thing, I’d just like to point out that I’ve got — had — nothing against Steve Irwin (beyond the fact that for some reason his site isn’t responding tonight). I’d only watched a couple of his shows, but his enthusiasm shone through. He always struck me as a bloke who loved animals, loved working with animals, and pretty much loved his job. I make bad taste jokes to my friends and family when they have unpleasant situations to deal with.I do it because by nature I’m flippant, and by nature I want to see the funny side of things. I hope if there’s a heaven up there somewhere connected to the internet, and Steve gets to read this post, it raises a chuckle.

Milos Mandic Responds

Bumped because of further responses.

Some of you who read my site regularly will remember a posting called Milos Mandic and the stange case of the comment spam, where I described the phenomena of comments cropping up around the web, which add no real value to the discussion but just look to generate links back to someone’s site.

In this, I pointed at an example of a chap called Milos Mandic, or at least someone claiming to be him who was carrying out this precise practice. I’ve had an email from Milos (again, or at least someone claiming to be him) this morning

The Frog And Peach

Posted by: JackP on September 3rd, 2006

I’ve just been out for a meal tonight, at a restaurant which seemed to be pretty much in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in North Yorkshire. Please: no comments about how this was always going to be the same place. Anyway, it was called the Something and Something Else. I’m not telling you exactly what, because I’m not a restaurant review guide — although if anyone wants to provide me with free food I’ll happily give their restaurant an excellent write up. The only clue I’ll give you is that it had a distinctly fishy or possibly nautical theme.

So, for the sake of needing something to call it, I’m going to refer to it as the Frog and Peach, in homage to that classic Pete & Dud sketch where the dishes have a distinctly froggy and peachy feel:

Unfortunately I'm not in receipt of any corporate sponsorship, so running this thing actually costs me money. If you're a nice corporate person and would like to sponsor me to the tune of £18.3 million, get in touch. I could put a nice picture of you here explaining why people should visit your site because you're so jolly nice. Incidentally, I am prepared to be somewhat flexible about the actual amount…
