The Gender Genie

Inspired by a post on Anna Pickard’s site (no relation), I decided to go and have a look at The Gender Genie to see if it could establish whether the person writing my blog posts was male or female.

I’ve checked eight of my blog posts — as I lost interest after that — but according to the Gender Genie, I’m male. That’s not a surprise to me (I did know that already) but it is quite impressive that an algorithm can assess my use of certain keywords such as “as”, “the” and “it” and from that determine correctly, eight times out of eight, that I’m male.

Well done, Gender Genie. Can I have my three wishes now?

How interesting. I tested this out. Gladly I report that the majority of what I tested came up male-written. :)

  2. Steve responds:

I’ve just checked a couple of mine and I’m a man.

    Ehhhh…I’m a man.

    Well, nobody’s perfect…

  3. Mike Cherim responds:

With a name like Steve, I certainly hope the finding was accurate ;)

Gets me wrong every time so far. Interestingly, it does think that St Paul’s letter to the Colossians was written by a woman - in the NIV at least…
