About Me

I am a developer based (mostly) in the North East of England. I now work in the private sector, but have spent almost ten years working in the public sector and still care deeply about it. In addition to that, I am passionate about web accessibility, web standards, Newcastle United, good quality beer, and my wife and children, although not necessarily in that order. I also have an interest in local and family history and have spent some time researching my family tree, which is available on an archived part of the site.

About This Site

This is my personal website, full of my personal opinions. Please be aware that my opinions do not necessarily match those of my employer. This site is used as a space for me to talk about things that have happened in my life, or that are happening in areas that I have an interest in — such as football or web standards.

The Web Chemist

When designing sites, I used to sometimes wonder where a flash of inspiration for a particular idea came from and imagined a scenario where there was a little mad scientist in my head with a white lab coat and a bubbling test tube shouting "Eureka" …and then possibly turning into Mr Hyde.

This concept became my web design alter ego, ‘the web chemist’, who is experienced in CSS, (X)HTML, Coldfusion, .NET, SQL Server and Microsoft Access, and also has experience of using PHP and MySQL.

Websites and design work produced by the web chemist can be seen on the web chemist portfolio page.

The web chemist ‘character’ is not copyrighted — see the Terms & Conditions page for more information.
