My Plastic Pal

Newcastle United Season Ticket 2008-09 (flickr)

My Newcastle season ticket has arrived (and so, fortunately, has BTP’s).

This season, season tickets at the club are different to what has gone before. Previously you’d be issued with what was effectively a book of vouchers: you’d tear out the relevant ticket as you approach the ground/ bar area and then either hand it to the bloke on the turnstile, or the bloke holding the door open for you, depending on how expensive your seat was.

This year, it’s simply a piece of plastic with your supporter number and other relevant details (such as your name and seat number) on the back. Presumably the turnstiles then pick up your customer number from your card, and cross-reference with some database or other to determine whether or not you should have access to the game.

All very impressive, no doubt. Now all that remains is to make sure we’re at the ground by 2:10 on Saturday in order to get our free drink.
