The Tyne and Wear Great Pub Game

…don’t think I haven’t noticed.

More and more we’re hearing about this new entity “NewcastleGateshead” which is claiming to be a reflection of the fact that Newcastle and Gateshead effectively operate as one unit much of the time, with shared infrastructure, transport links and so on, and that they work well and effectively together.

At least, that’s what they want you to believe is the reason.

I believe there is a sinister cabal of beer-drinkers and pub-goers in the North East who are trying to push their own agenda here (I wouldn’t normally mind, but they haven’t invited me), and they are trying to turn the whole area into a giant pub.

Just think about it — NewcastleGateshead is a bit too much of a mouthful, so it’s bound to get abbreviated.

But it’s only by abbreviating the term that the true genius of the plan is revealed. Simply remove the letters e, w, c, s, t, l, e, a, t, and e, and you’ll find the secret new name for the region, previously known only to the sinister cabal known as the Freedrinkers.

NaGs head.

You heard it here first…

Drinking south of the Tyne makes me ill. With a pint inside me I come out in a rash half way across the Swing Bridge.
