I have a dream…

Rather, I did have a dream, which seemed to be quite a long dream and a lot of the detail remained with me, so I thought I’d relate it here. After careful analysis of dream meanings, I have arrived at the conclusion that the meaning of this dream is I had cheese just before bedtime. Or something like that, anyway.

Basically, it all started in Gateshead town centre. I was walking towards that car park (you know, the one I don’t like), when Doctor Who (in his Patrick Troughton form) who was walking along beside me fell over, clutching his chest.

He told me that he didn’t have long left, and could I see that he was cremated and drop his ashes of on the Moonbase (where he encountered the Cybermen). ‘Not a problem’, I thought, and was just about to set fire to him, when he stood up and said he was feeling a bit better for the moment and would catch up with me later when he was a bit closer to dying.

Fair enough, I thought and continued walking along — whereupon he re-appeared with a group of other people in Gateshead Metro station, who all stopped to chat. I didn’t mind talking to them for a couple of minutes, but when they all started sitting down at metal tables (which don’t normally exist) and drinking cups of coffee (which you can’t get) I realised that I was going to be late…

So then I set off in the car, leaving Patrick Troughton behind drinking coffee and chatting to my friends, and was in the passenger seat of the car as my wife was driving. Strangely enough we were driving towards the centre of Gateshead, rather than away from it, and there was an extra junction on the left which doesn’t normally exist.

Because I didn’t tell my wife in time whether she should take that junction or stay on the main road, she deliberately drove into the barrier at the point the roads separated saying something about it being my fault for being a crap navigator, and we broke through the barrier and came to a rest at the bottom of a big grassy bank.

Unfortunately, the car was too deeply embedded in mud to get it out, so we just had to walk back up to the top. At this point, for some reason I was sent back down to pull the car out, but when I got to the bottom of the bank, the car had vanished, and instead was a strange room, built into the hillside, but more like the interior of a warehouse than a cave.

There I found the car, and managed to haul it back to the grassy bank, but as this was now considerably steeper (you had to climb it by making finger-holes in the earth and gripping on to them to ascend more-or-less vertically), I had to reluctantly leave the car when climbing back to the top.

Back at the top, my wife and her sister were stood there laughing at me, and I got really cross with them for laughing, but a passerby told me not to worry because “a lot of people get stuck on this level”, and not to give up on it. So I climbed back down the grassy bank again — obviously the car had vanished — and went back into the strange room.

This time I noticed that the walls had drawers embedded in them, and there were various pieces of paper with notes scribbled on them, with people trying to trying to piece together clues to “solve” this place. There were also small replica cars – copies of the cars people had lost in one of these sets of drawers, and everyone was milling about a bit lost…

…there was also a room which led off to a strange river, which you were specifically told not to put your feet in, because if your feet went in the river, your foot and shoe would get pulled off and would float away (I’m presuming this was because I’d been reading about the feet washing ashore in Canada)…

Then I noticed the Doctor Who theme continuing with a picture of a pink, smiling Cyberman head on one of the walls, which I immediately thought of as a ‘Cyberchild’. Presumably a cybergirl, considering it was pink… and I was just pondering this when David Tennant as Doctor Who appeared, proclaimed something or other about it “being like a mirror” and smashed through the wall to reveal that various Cybermen were attached to machines, seeming in a state of suspended animation.

Including the ‘cyberchild’. Although when I told the Doctor about it, he insisted that it wasn’t a cyberman child at all (as if!), it was actually a specialist Cyberman ‘hunter’. I wasn’t entirely convinced, because that still didn’t explain the smile, but I left him to it, and went back to look for the car.

Working on the theory that it was ‘like a mirror’ and the miniature cars would correspond somehow to real ones, I began investigating the drawers on the opposite wall to where I had encountered the ‘toy’ versions of the missing cars. I quickly ascertained that these drawers had a false bottom and I was removing that to reach down when…

I noticed the background noise had changed — the ‘cyber-breathing’ that I had heard since we’d broken into the side chamber was now louder and faster, and David Tennant came bursting back in, saying that the Cybermen were waking up, and we had to get out of here now!

I was desperately trying to reach through to find if beneath the false bottom of the drawer, there was a tunnel or passage that led to where the cars had been put, when the first Cyberman began to emerge from the room next door and…

…just then, the Doctor Who credits appeared, and because this was a special one-off episode airing in October, I wasn’t going to get my car back — or find out whether or not I had managed to escape — until the Christmas episode. Which was somewhat annoying, given the fact that while I knew there was going to be a Christmas episode with Cybermen in, but no-one had told me there was going to be an October episode — and particularly not one with me in — otherwise I would have taped it…

Like I say, I’m not entirely sure what this is all supposed to mean (apart from eating cheese gives you really interesting dreams and I’ll have to try that again), and it’s not even as if I had been watching Doctor Who this week…

It’s very easy to interpret this dream.

It means you’re stark raving bonkers. :o )

PS. Next time you have some cheese can you check the drawers for my Toyota MR2? A large bird flew off with it the other night.
