Revels
Does anyone else remember revels?

Yes, the chocolate sweeties. Well, not only do I remember Revels, but I even remember the peanut revel, which has long been replaced by the raisin one for some reason like not wanting to kill people via massive allergic reactions or something. Either that or raisins are cheaper than peanuts, anyway.
Well, I bought a bag of revels today. Not in itself striking or of particular interest, I readily acknowledge. But this bag had something on it called ‘Revels Eviction’ and told me about a Revels Eviction site where you get the opportunity to vote to save your favourite revel, and cast out your least favourite revel into utter damnation.
At the end of the competition, the least favourite revel will then be cast out to be replaced by a new, mystery revel.
I was somewhat disappointed by the quality of the revels eviction site: you can’t use it without javascript, and if you can’t hear it (whether by not being able to hear, or like I frequently do as I use the PC on the train, by having the sound switched off), you simply can’t hear what’s going on and there’s no way to switch on subtitles or anything else. And of course, you need Flash, otherwise there’s no way to do anything. Not to mention you need to be able to see a visual CAPTCHA to be able to vote on your choice…
Yes, by all means have a nice flash site, but back it up with something else, okay?
Now where was I? … oh yes, voting for your favourite revel.
Obviously the only way to do this is to give each revel a mark out of ten, to determine my favourite and least favourite. So here goes.
- Chocolate
- Mmm. Chocolate. It’s a bit like a Minstrel, only without the hard shell. Which unfortunately is one of the bits I like about Minstrels. But you can’t exactly go wrong with ‘plain’ milk chocolate, so this still scores a solid 6.
- Caramel
- One of the ones I’m pleased to get: not my favourite but definitely one of the good ‘uns. 7.
- Coffee
- Without a doubt, my favourite Revel. I like coffee flavours, so this one is a clear 9.
- Orange
- Now I like the orange revel, but nowhere near as much as the Coffee one, so it only gets a 7.
- Raisin
- I’ve always disliked the raisin one. Partly because I liked the peanut one, so this seemed a rather poor replacement, and partly because I don’t particularly like chocolate covered raisins. This is reflected in my poor mark of 2.
- Maltesers
- If I wanted Maltesers, I’d buy a pack of them. I’ve never really felt that they justified their inclusion in a bag of Revels, but despite that I don’t actually dislike them as strongly as I dislike the raisin ones. Scrapes a 3.
So there we have it. My favourite Revel is coffee, and my least favourite the raisin one. What’s yours?
Note that you are not allowed to vote for the coffee revel as your least favourite*, because I like them, so please don’t as I don’t want to see them cast into the ‘revel wilderness’…
*technically, I can’t actually prevent you, but I did ask nicely.

Raisin duly voted for, it has no place in Revels. Seems the eviction is for a limited time only, so even if your beloved coffee gets the heave-ho it’ll be back before long.
It would have been nice to have the chance to vote on the incoming Revel too. Now the asparagus Revel will never see the light of day…

Has to be the Maltesers. Can’t believe coffee is so high in the rankings, I think there must be some vote rigging going on.
